スペインの中学校（ESO à Educación Secundaria Obligatoria）は４年制だ。小学校の６年間を終え、だいたい１２歳で中学校に入学し、普通なら１５歳で卒業する。義務教育は１６歳で終わる。

僕がチャビに出会ったのは、彼が中学校１年生、１２歳の時だった。背は低い方。丸顔。お決まりの短髪。ちょっと太め。当時僕は英語を教えていた。彼は出来が悪いわけじゃないのに、どうしようもなく怠け者だった。あれから３年。今年は彼のクラスでスペイン語を教えることになった。背は僕と同じくらい、１８０ｃｍ前後にまで伸びていた。ゴシックファッションを身にまとい、髪は肩まで伸ばしている。でも、丸顔とポッチャリ体型はそのまま。相変わらず怠け者で、今ではもう、ぐうたらを決め込んでしまったようだ。この前、「内的独白技法」の一環として短い作文を宿題に出したら、昨日こんな作文を持ってきた。

また土曜日が来た。僕はといえば、宿題もせずにベッドに横たわっている。

うざってぇ。なにもやりたくねぇ。

なんでこんなに宿題を出すんだ？(1)

教師なんて大嫌いだ。やつらが憎い。どうせ、宿題出す他にやることがないんだろう。(2)

うざってぇ。ああ、うざってぇ。眠りてぇ。目をつぶって、居眠りして…

ダメだ。できない。眠っちゃいけない。ムカつく教師め。全部あいつらのせいだ。明日早起きして宿題かよ。やりたくねぇ。めんどくせぇ…。

やりたくねぇ。やりたくねぇ。眠っちゃいけねぇ…。あぁ…。（3）

Hay cuatro cursos de enseñanza secundaria en España (ESO à Educación Secundaria Obligatoria). Los alumnos empiezan con unos doce años tras seis años de primaria, y  suelen acabar con quince. A los dieciséis años se acaba el periodo en que la enseñanza es obligatoria.

A Xavi lo conocí en 1º de ESO, cuando tenía doce años. Era un niño más bien bajo, de cara redonda, pelo corto convencional y con un poco de sobrepeso. Entonces le enseñaba inglés. No le faltaba capacidad, pero le sobraba pereza. Ahora, tres años más tarde, me lo vuelvo a encontrar en clase de lengua castellana. Mide más o menos un metro ochenta, como yo, viste con una estética gótica, se ha dejado el pelo largo hasta los hombros, pero mantiene la cara redonda, un poco de sobrepeso y una pereza que ha convertido casi en pose vital. Sin embargo, pedí como deberes para ayer viernes una pequeña redacción extra intentando seguir la técnica del monólogo interior, y la ha hecho:

«Sábado otra vez, y yo aquí tumbado en la cama sin hacer los deberes. Que coñazo, no tengo ganas de hacer nada. ¿Por qué nos mandan tantos deberes? (1) Odio a los profesores. Los odio. Seguro que no tienen nada mejor que hacer que mandarnos deberes (2). Pesados, muy pesados. Quiero dormir, me apetece dormir, solo cerrar los ojos, una cabezada…

No quiero, no puedo, no tengo que quedarme dormido. Malditos profesores, los odio, todo es su culpa. Mañana tendré que madrugar para hacer deberes, no quiero, me da pereza…

In Spain, secondary school (ESO Educación Secundaria Obligatoria) consists of four grades. Students begin secondary school at the age of about 12, after 6 years of primary school, and they usually finish when they are 15. Compulsory education comes to an end at the age of 16.

I met Xavi for the first time when he was 12 years old, in the first grade of ESO. He was a rather short, round faced, conventional short-haired boy. A bit plump. That school year, I was teaching English. Xavi didn’t lack capacity, but he was too lazy. Now, three years later, I have met him again at my Spanish language class. He is about 1.80m, like myself, wearing Gothic clothes, growing his hair down to his shoulders, but still round faced, and with a little overweight. He has even refined his laziness to become his life pose. However, I asked as yesterday´s homework an extra 100 word composition trying to follow the interior monologue technique, and he has handed it in:

“Saturday, again, and I am here lying on bed and not doing homework. What a bore! I feel like doing nothing. Why do they give us so much homework? (1) I hate teachers. I hate them. I am sure they have nothing else to do than assigning homework (2). Boring, they are boring. I want to get asleep, I feel like that, I just want to close my eyes, just a nod…

I don´t want to, I can´t, I must not sleep. Damned teachers, I hate them. Everything is their fault. Tomorrow I will have to get up early to do homework, but I don´t want to, I feel lazy.
