未知のガウディ - Gaudí desconocido - Unknown Gaudí

今年の秋はバスに乗って、ガウディ建築の中でもあまり知られていない作品を見学に行った。バルセロナの北133kmに位置するラ・ポブラ・デ・リジェット村の「アルティガス庭園」だ。

20世紀初め、繊維実業家のジョアン・アルティガスは、ジョブレガット川上流にあるラ・ポブラ・デ・リジェット村の自宅の敷地4haに庭園を建築するよう、ガウディに依頼した。当時は、多くの企業が河川の周辺を本拠地としていた。水力をエネルギー源として利用するためだった。ガウディはこの時すでにバルセロナのグエル公園の建築に着手していた。

年月の経過とともに庭園の存在は忘れられていったが、1971年に再発見され、今日では観光客、とくに国内の旅行者や学校からの生徒たちでにぎわっている。国内の観光客が多いのは、バルセロナから公共交通機関を使ってアクセスするのが難しいためかもしれない。電車でマンレサまで行って、バスでラ・ポブラ・デ・リジェットへ行くという方法もあるが、同じ日には帰れない。一番簡単なのは車だ。学校のバスなら、２時間くらいで着く。村の手前に、ミニ列車の旧駅があって、その側に駐車場がある。この列車は昔、産業用運搬に使われていたが、今は観光客をアルティガス庭園と小さな博物館に運ぶのに利用されている。

アルティガス庭園は、ガウディの他の作品の美しさに比べたら“影”のような存在にすぎないかもしれない。でも、サグラダ・ファミリア、バトリョー邸、ラ・ペドレーラ、グエル公園といった作品を堪能した人なら、こうした場所もきっと楽しめるはずだ。

Gaudí, desconocido.

Una de las salidas de otoño de este año ha consistido en una excursión en autobús para conocer una de las obras más desconocidas de Gaudí, los Jardines Artigas en La Pobla de Lillet, a 133 quilómetros de Barcelona en dirección norte.

A principios del siglo XX, un industrial textil, Joan Artigas, encargó a Gaudí que diseñara un jardín de cuatro hectáreas para el terreno que poseía junto a su casa y la fábrica de la Pobla de Lillet, en la parte alta del río Llobregat. En esa época, muchas empresas se situaban junto el cauce de los ríos para utilizar la fuerza del agua como fuente de energía. En ese momento, Gaudí ya había iniciado las obras del Parque Güell, en Barcelona. El paso del tiempo hizo que los jardines Artigas cayeran en el olvido, hasta que en 1971 fueron redescubiertos. Hoy en día son un lugar de visita del turismo interno y de excursiones escolares, y no tanto de turismo extranjero, debido a que la conexión desde Barcelona en transporte público es muy precaria.

Existe la posibilidad de viajar en tren hasta Manresa, y desde allí a la Pobla de Lillet en un autobús para el que no existe viaje de vuelta el mismo día, así que la única opción fácil es el coche. En autobús escolar, se tarda unas dos horas. Antes de llegar al pueblo hay un párquing junto a una antigua estación de un pequeño tren que en su momento servía como medio de transporte industrial y hoy se ha restaurado para llevar a los turistas desde allí hasta los Jardines Artigas y un pequeño museo.

Los jardines Artigas tal vez no son más que un pálido reflejo, una sombra de la belleza de otras obras de Gaudí; pero quien haya disfrutado de lugares como la Sagrada Familia, la casa Batlló, la Pedrera o el Parque Güell, entre otras, no podrá dejar de disfrutar de la huella de Gaudí también en un lugar así.

One of the school trips this autumn was an one day outing by coach to visit one of the less known of Gaudi´s works: the Artigas gardens at La Pobla de Lillet, about ninety miles from Barcelona heading north.

At the beginning of the 20^th century, Joan Artigas, a textile manufacturer, asked Gaudi to design the new gardens for his home at La Pobla de Lillet, on the higher part of Llobregat river. At the time, many industries were located beside a riverbed to use the force of water as an energy source. At the moment, Gaudi had already begun his Parc Güell in Barcelona. As years went by, Artigas gardens were simply forgotten. In 1971, they were rediscovered and now they are visited mainly by internal tourism and school groups. Not so many foreigners go there, because public transport from Barcelona to La Pobla de Lillet is not convenient at all.

If you want to go there using public transport, you can go by train to Manresa, and then continue your trip on a coach, which will not come back on the same day, so the only easy option is car. On a school coach, it is a two hours journey. Just before arriving at the village, there is a parking area beside an old industrial train station, that was used in the old days by Mr. Artigas’ factory. Now it has been put back on rails to transport tourists from there through the village to Artigas Gardens and a bit further, to a small textile museum.

Artigas Gardens may well be only a pale reflection, a shadow of other Gaudi´s works, but those who have enjoyed places such a Sagrada Familia, Batlló house, Pedrera, or Parque Güell among many others, those will surely be able to enjoy as well a place like this.
