この前、数人の生徒が教えてくれたのだが、学校のそばの花屋で、ＦＣバルセロナのスタジアムの芝が売られているそうだ。その通りだった。写真のとおり、花屋のポスターにはこう書いてあった。「バルサのスタジアムの芝あります。チャンピオンの芝です」
スペインでは、サッカーが宗教のような役割を果たしてきた。人々は昔、巡礼服を着て聖地を訪れることで、人生に感動を与えていた。今日、サッカーチームのサポーターは奇抜な格好をしてチームのヨーロッパ遠征を追いかけ、似たような感動を味わっている。昔、人々は聖人の聖遺物を持っていた。今はスタジアムの芝を買うことができる。昔は有名な大聖堂に埋葬されることが特権だった。今は、カンプ・ノウのようなお気に入りのスタジアムの納骨堂に灰を納めることができる。昔は宗教戦争があった。今はチャンピオンズリーグがある。
多くの人々にとって、サッカーは人生の中心を占めている。ここバルセロナには、ＦＣバルセロナの情報を主に扱うスポーツ紙、「スポルト」と「エル・ムンド・デポルティーボ」がある。そして、ＦＣバルセロナの専属チャンネル「バルサＴＶ」もある。さらに、数多くのラジオ、テレビ番組が、このクラブの情報を日々カバーしている。マドリードも同じように、レアル・マドリード情報をカバーするメディアがたくさんある。
サッカーのスペクタクルが本当に無害なのかどうかはわからない。僕には、麻酔や抗不安薬のようなあやしい効果があるような気がしてならない。その効果の下では、サポーターも現実の問題（就職難、銀行の貪欲さ、守られることのない政治家の公約…）について冷静に考えるより、ライバルチームや審判に日常のフラストレーションをぶつける方を選ぶのだろう。
Hierba del campo del FC Barcelona
Unos alumnos me dijeron que en la
floristería de al lado del colegio venden ahora hierba del campo del FCBarcelona. Era cierto: «Tenemos hierba del campo del Barça. La hierba de los
campeones» ponía en el cartel de la floristería que he fotografiado.
Aquí el fútbol ha asumido de algún
modo el rol de la religión. Antiguamente, muchos viajaban a centros religiosos vestidos
de peregrinos para dar emoción a sus vidas. Ahora los aficionados viajan con
sus equipos por Europa vestidos de mamarrachos para sentir emociones parecidas.
Antes, tenían las reliquias de los santos. Ahora, podemos comprar la hierba de
los estadios. Antes, era un privilegio ser enterrado en una catedral
importante. Ahora, es posible que tus cenizas reposen en el columbario de tu estadio favorito, como el del FC Barcelona. Antes había guerras de religión.
Ahora tenemos la Champions League.
El fútbol ocupa una parte central
de la vida de muchas personas. Aquí en Barcelona, hay dos diarios deportivos
que se ocupan del FC Barcelona casi en exclusiva: Sport y Mundo Deportivo;
una cadena de televisión exclusiva: BarçaTV, y decenas de programas de radio y televisión que cada día tratan sobre
este club. Y en Madrid, pasa lo mismo.
No sé si el espectáculo del fútbol
es realmente inofensivo. De alguna manera, me resulta sospechoso el efecto
anestésico y ansiolítico que tiene sobre los aficionados, que prefieren volcar
sus frustraciones sobre los rivales o el árbitro a reflexionar sobre las
causas de sus dificultades para encontrar trabajo digno, sus problemas con la
voracidad de los bancos o las promesas incumplidas de los políticos de turno.
Grass from FC Barcelona soccer field
Some of my students told me that it is possible to buy now grass from FCBarcelona soccer field at the florist near our school. It is true: “We have got
grass from FC Barcelona. The champions’ grass”, is written on the sign of the
florist window on the picture.
Soccer has taken somehow the role of religion here. In the past, many
travelled to religious sites dressed as pilgrims to give their lives some emotion.
Now, fans travel with their teams all over Europe dressed as clowns to feel
something similar. Before, they had the saints’ relics, Now, we can buy soccer
field grass. In the old days, it was a privilege to be buried in the grounds of
an important cathedral. Now, it is possible that your ashes will rest in the
columbarium of your favourite stadium, such as FC Barcelona’s. Before, there
were religion wars. Now, we have got the Champions League.
Football takes up a central part of many people’s lives. Here in
Barcelona, there are two sport newspapers dealing almost exclusively with FC
Barcelona: Sport and Mundo Deportivo; a TV station for FC
Barcelona: Barça TV, and dozens of
radio and TV programmes about the club latest news. And in Madrid, it is just
the same with Real Madrid FC.
I don´t know if the soccer show is really harmless. Somehow, I find
suspicious the anesthetic and anxiolytic effects of soccer on fans, who prefer directing
their frustrations on the other team’s fans or the referee to thinking about
the causes of their difficulties to get a decent job, their problems with the
banks voracity or the broken promises of the politicians in power.
