イケてないクリスマス - Navidad cutre - Sleazy Christmas

クリスマスシーズンの家族親戚との食事は多少不快でも我慢できる。混雑したショッピングモールやデパートで義務的にプレゼントを買うのも、まあよしとしよう。クリスマスなのだから、平和と愛と善意があってもいい。あちこちで流れる耳障りなクリスマスキャロルは？最悪だが、仕方がない。

僕がクリスマスの熱狂的なファンじゃないことはもう明らかだろうが、それでも何とか耐えられる。何とか。でも、バルコニーにぶらさがっているサンタクロースの人形はどうしても耐えられない。かなり「Cutre」（イケてない）だと思う。でも、スペイン人は「Cutrerío」（イケてないこと）を極めることにかけては誰よりも優れているといっていい。ここでは１月６日にレジェス・マゴス（東方の三賢王）が子供たちにプレゼントを贈る慣習がある。だから今年もバルコニーにレジェス・マゴスの人形がぶらさがっている。

「Cutre」は「質の悪いもの」「趣味の悪いもの」を意味する形容詞だ。名詞は「Cutrez」。「Cutrerío」は、「Cutreスタイル」。たとえば、映画監督ペドロ・アルモドバルは、いくつかの作品の中でスペインのCutreríoをうまく描いている。

Navidad cutre

Tener que ir a comidas navideñas familiares insoportables, bueno. Tener que soportar las multitudes que se aglomeran en los comercios para comprar cosas innecesarias y regalos obligatorios, vale. Paz y amor y bondad porque toca, pase. ¿Villancicos chirriantes por todos lados? Qué horror, pero hay que tener paciencia. 

No soy el fan número uno de la Navidad. Eso es obvio, pero la soporto. Casi, casi. No soporto los muñecos de Papa Noel colgados de los balcones. Me parecen muy cutres, pero en España, si se trata de cutrerío, podemos superar cualquier cosa: como la tradición es que son los Reyes Magos los que traen regalos a los niños el seis de enero, este año también los colgamos de los balcones.

Cutre es un adjetivo para algo de poca calidad  y mal gusto. El sustantivo es cutrez. El cutrerío es la estética cutre. Pedro Almodóvar retrata en algunas de sus películas el cutrerío español. 

Sleazy Christmas

I can stand Christmas family gatherings with unbearable relatives. I can stand crowds of people together in shopping areas to buy things they don´t need or presents they are obliged to buy. I can stand Peace and Love and Goodness because it is Christmas. Screeching carols everywhere? Awful, but I can take it if I must.

I am not Christmas time first fan. That is obvious, but I do my best to endure it. Almost. I cannot stand Santa puppets hanging from balconies or windows. I find them seedy, sleazy, but in Spain, if we are talking seediness, we can beat anyone: tradition says that the Three Holy Kings bring children presents on January the 6^th, so some people are hanging the Three Holy Kings from balconies, as well.

Cutre is an adjective meaning something with poor quality and bad taste. The noun is cutrez. Cutrerío is the sleazy or seedy aesthetics. Pedro Almodóvar shows in some of his movies the Spanish cutrerío.
