犬をソーセージでつなぐ - Atar los perros con longaniza - Tying dogs up with sausages

スペイン語には、「Atar los perros con longaniza」(犬をロンガニサ（＝ソーセージの一種）でつなぐ)という言い回しがある。裕福で、全てが完璧に機能する理想郷（スペインとは正反対）について話す人に対して、皮肉をこめて言い返す時に使われることが多い。

例：

「ドイツでは簡単に仕事が見つかるんだって。みんないい生活をしてるみたいだよ」

「そりゃそうだ。きっと犬もロンガニサでつないでいるんだろう」

ロンガニサとは、細長い形をした豚の腸詰の一種で、チョリソに少し似ている。チョリソにはアマトウガラシ、ロンガニサには黒コショウが入っている。

数カ月前から、与党の政治家や、政治家をほめちぎるジャーナリストは、「スペインの景気が回復の兆しを見せている」としきりに主張している。景気回復の兆しとやらが見えているのは、きっと本人たちか富裕層だけだろう。昨年、上級管理職の給料は平均７％アップしたらしい。その他は１％のアップ。一方で、公務員の多くがひと月分の給料に相当する年末のボーナスをもらえなかった。それでも、給料がもらえればいい方だ。中には４００ユーロの給料しかもらえない人たちもいる。スペイン人の２５％以上が失業中だ。

結局、犬をソーセージでつないでいるのは７％。その他大勢は、ソーセージも、紐も、つなぐべき犬も持っていない。

Atar los perros con longaniza

«Atar los perros con longaniza» lo decimos para responder irónicamente a quien nos habla de un lugar ideal, lleno de riqueza y donde todo funciona perfectamente. O sea, nada que ver con España.

─En Alemania es muy fácil encontrar trabajo ─dicen─ y todo el mundo vive muy bien.

─Claro ─respondes irónicamente─. Allí atan los perros con longaniza.

La longaniza es un tipo de embutido de cerdo largo y delgado, parecido al chorizo. El chorizo lleva pimentón rojo; la longaniza, pimienta negra.

Hace meses que los políticos del gobierno y los periodistas que les hacen de palmeros nos bombardean con mensajes sobre la recuperación de la economía española, una recuperación que deben estar percibiendo solo ellos y las capas sociales más altas. El año pasado el sueldo de los directivos subió una media de un 7%. El del resto no llegó al 1%, y muchos empleados públicos se quedaron sin la paga extra de fin de año, un mes de sueldo. Y tienen suerte, porque tienen sueldo. Otros trabajan por sueldos míseros de 400 euros mensuales o menos y más de un 25% de españoles no encuentran trabajo.

Así pues, esos del 7% atan los perros con longaniza, pero muchos otros no tienen longaniza, ni cuerda, ni tan siquiera perro para atar.

Tying dogs up with sausages

 «Atar los perros con longaniza» (tying dogs up with Spanish sausages) is something we say to answer with irony to someone who is telling us about an ideal place where everything works as it should. Nothing do with Spain, that place.

─In Germany it is very easy to find a job ─they say─ and everybody lives fairly well.

─Sure ─you say─. Allí atan los perros con longaniza (they have money coming out of their ears / they are rolling in it).

Longaniza is a kind of Spanish pork spicy sausage, long and thin, similar to chorizo. Chorizo has paprika in it, but longaniza has black pepper.

For months the politicians in the government and the journalists dedicated to  applaud them are bombing us with messages in the way that the Spanish economy is in full recovery. That is something perceived just by them and maybe the rich. Last year managers’ salaries went up about 7%, but the rest of workers’ wages rise didn´t reach 1%, and many people working for the administration were deprived of a month of salary for the third year in a row ( the end of the year extra payment). And they are lucky, because they have got a job. Others work for miserable salaries of 400 euros a month (about 550 dollars now), and more than 25% of Spaniards cannot even find a job.

We could say that those whose salaries were up by 7% must be “tying up their dogs up with sausages”, but many others do not have any sausages, nor rope, nor even a dog to tie up.
