夏はまだだが、もう暑い。僕は子どもの頃、両親の田舎がある小さな村で夏を過ごしたものだった。田舎ではみんな、昼食、夕食時にワインのソーダ割りを飲んでいた。７、８歳になれば、子どもだって飲んでいた。たっぷりのソーダ水に、少しばかりのワインが入っていた。
やがて、コーラやファンタのようなソフトドリンクが流行りだして、ワインのビール割りは消えて行った。当時は、カフェインが子どもの体に及ぼす影響なんて誰も心配していなかった。コーラならいいけど、子どもにワインなんてとんでもない！というわけだ。
数年前から、またワインのソーダ割りが流行りだしたが、名前は「ティント・デ・ベラノ（夏の赤ワイン）」に変わった。中身は昔ながらのワインのソーダ割りと同じなのだが、今のはワインとソーダが最初から混ざっていて、プラスチックのボトルに入っている。
１８歳未満の若者がアルコール飲料を飲んだり、買ったりすることは法律で禁じられている。ただし、実際に彼らがアルコール飲料を買うのは簡単らしい。もちろん実際に飲む者もいる。今は子どもにワインやビールを少しあげるなんて考えられないことだろう。それでも、僕が教えている１６歳未満の生徒の中には、３、４年前に初めてアルコールを試した子もいる。この国では、決して珍しいことじゃない。
Vino con gaseosa.
Aunque aún no ha
llegado el verano, ya hace calor. Cuando era niño pasaba los veranos en una
pequeña aldea en el medio de la nada. Entonces, todo el mundo bebía vino con
gaseosa con comidas y cenas. Los niños también, a partir de los siete u ocho
años: un gran vaso de gaseosa y un chorrito de vino tinto. Luego se pusieron de
moda los refrescos modernos y el vino con gaseosa se acabó. Nadie se preocupó mucho
por los efectos de la cafeína en los críos, pero ¿dar vino a un niño? Qué
horror. Hace unos años se ha puesto de
moda otra vez el vino con gaseosa, pero ahora lo llaman “tinto de verano”: el
vino con gaseosa de siempre, pero mezclado y en botella de plástico.
La ley prohíbe
el consumo o venta de bebidas alcohólicas a personas de menos de dieciocho
años, pero dicen que no es nada difícil comprarlas y evidentemente algunos las
consumen. A nadie se le ocurriría darle
un poco de vino o cerveza a un niño. Sin embargo, algunos de mis alumnos de
menos de dieciséis años, que son como el resto de chicos y chicas de este país,
ya empezaron a tomar alcohol hace tres o cuatro años.
Wine and sweet soda.
Summer has not arrived, yet, but it is already quite hot. When I was a child, I used to spend my summer holidays in a tiny Spanish village in the middle of nowhere. Then, everybody would drink wine with sweet soda with lunch and dinner. So did children, since we were seven or eight: a glass of sweet soda with a splash of red wine. Later, modern soft drinks became fashionable and wine with sweet soda was over. Nobody cared much about the caffeine effects on kids, but… giving wine to children? Awful. Wine with sweet soda has been back for some years now, but now the call it “tinto de verano” (summer red wine): the same drink, but already mixed in a plastic bottle.
Drinking alcohol is prohibited by law to people under 18, but they say younger people can easily get alcoholic drinks and some or many of them obviously use them. Nobody would give even a bit of wine or beer to a child. However, some of my students, now under 16, began drinking alcohol three or four years ago, and they are average Spanish teenagers.
